What I Like About Mike

Mike Huckabee is a man under attack. Why? Because he's a winner. Why else? Because he's a true Christian. Why even else? Because he's a Baptist, like all good Christians are.

Some so-called conservatives claim that Mike is wrong for claiming the mantle that he so rightfully deserves: that he is the Christian candidate. If that's wrong, heck, I don't want to be right! Some of the same Huck-haters claim that Huck is only wrapping the Jesus mantle around him to make Mittens, a loud heretical Mormon and Massachusetts liberal, look bad. I really doubt that, but if so, G-d bless Huck! More power to him.

And there's several things, dear friends, that disturb me about this whisper campaign against Mike Huckabee, who may well be G-d's chosen Republican candidate. And that's his principled stance against torture.

Now I really don't know where my good friend Jeremiah stands on this issue. So I might be going out on a limb here. But a number of Huck's critics seem to be saying that Mike takes Jesus' words just a little too seriously. And that makes me really angry.

Mike is against torture. I guess that makes him a bad guy. But would Jesus say that? Not my Jesus. Mike wants Guantanamo to be closed down eventually, if the liberal media is to be believed. Is that really so wrong? I don't think so. But then, I'm a Christian. George W. Bush, our great President, also thinks Gitmo should be closed down one day. I wouldn't argue with the greatest President in modern times, would you? Well, neither would Huck.

Now I visit a lot of liberal sites, such as Balloon Juice, since I want to understand my enemy. Not fall into their secular humanist thinking, mind you. But I do want to understand where they're coming from. They're a sneaky bunch after all. And John Cole, in his own way, raised some serious concerns (strong language warning...these are liberals after all) about how Mike Huckabee's opponents are treating him. Badly. And naturally I'm also concerned about what those supposedly on my own side are thinking. Those that are bashing on Mike Huckabee are most assuredly not on my side or yours.

Mike Huckabee is a Christian in the best sense of the word. He's not a Mormon (Romney), an adulterer (Giuliani), a maverick (McCain), a lazy product of Hollyweird (Thompson), or a one note racist (Tancredo), he's a good Christian man. And I think he's on his way up. On his way up to the White House, as well as on his way up to Heaven. G-d bless you, Mike Huckabee. You're going to win Iowa. No doubt about it!

To put it simply, Mike Huckabee is Mike Huckabee. And I thank him for that. There's not much more we, as Christians, could ask for. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. And that, in short, is why I like Mike. I haven't endorsed him yet, but I'm darn close. I hope you are too.

Thanks to Jeremiah for allowing me to make this guest post. G-d bless you all.
